Not too too long ago I took a trip to New York City to celebrate my oldest daughter's birthday.
Having been there many different times myself, it was great to see the wonderment through my daughter's eyes because of her love for this amazing city. (She is now living there.) The lights of Times Square, the 5th Avenue stores with all the fun and fabulous shopping, the great performances at the theaters, the garment district and the ethnic richness of Chinatown and Little Italy, each area of New York offers an enormous variety and different qualities to the city experience.
Yet, Times Square really took the prize in the ultimate of sensory overload. An amazing intake for any sightseer and local alike. It was both stimulating and overwhelming. Yet, that day I became more focused and truly understood how focus can effect our lives. Let me explain.
What I gained from walking around Times Square is that (sight) (seeing) is all about what you are looking for... like one of those seek and find puzzles. After nearly a dozen trips down the same street, I noticed something new each time. Whichever item we were looking for seemed to appear even though we had previously walked past it numerous times - a souvenir shop, a deli, a street vendor selling scarves, a hot dog stand, live musicians, street chairs with those wonderful massage therapists performing their craft (oh! how wonderful they were) or Italian cannolis. Okay, I admit, I actually spotted the cannolis the very first time I passed them! Amazing how we found what we were seeking each time.
We draw into our lives the things we focus on. If your mind is ready to pay attention to something – new people to meet, selling/serving opportunities, new applications for an old product, ways to save money, chances to learn a new skill – you draw those things into your consciousness. They have always been there, now you are just paying attention to them. When we change the way we look at things, things change the way they look.
Instead of paying attention to every single piece of information in our stimulus-rich world, if we seek the things we want in our life, that's exactly what we will find. Need proof? Just watch this 68 second video...
Here is a suggestion:
Look at the video again this time with your peripheral vision (soften your eyes) and relax... You will be amazed that you can see both the ball being passed AND what you had missed the first time.
This is what THE CHOICE IS MINE provides you... The tools to give you a way to see and become aware of so much more.
Seeking Answers During Tough Times? THE CHOICE IS MINE
Both Volume I and Volume II is written for an information-rich, time-poor world. Practical tools, interactive exercises, real-world examples bring to life the power of engagement for you and or your organization.
Managing our personal focus today is more important than ever for our mental, emotional and financial well-being. Look at what you read, listen to and the people you associate with.
If we seek negative, we find negative. For example:
Seek...
Find...
Life is a soap opera
Drama
News about job losses
Anxiety
Retirement account statement losses
Depression
Stories of investment fund embezzlers
Cynicism
On the other hand, if we seek positive, that's what we will find:
Seek...
Find...
Life as comedy
Humor
New opportunities
Energy
Things you can control
Empowerment
Ways to help others
Gratitude for what you have
People who inspire and lift you up
Support and encouragement
Faith
Comfort
In life, we get what we choose to look for, so choose wisely... and positively.
